Over-the-counter
Over-the-counter (OTC) is a type of marketplace where financial instruments are traded without a central physical location. Unlike formal exchanges, OTC trading is done through broker-dealer networks. This allows traders to access niche securities or assets that aren’t available on larger exchanges so private prices can be negotiated. However, without an exchange regulator, OTC contracts have a higher credit risk for all parties involved.
